Mead & Hunt Engineering
This 68M terminal and concourse renovation and expansion reinvented the airport as a significant civic structure and symbol for Madison and the surrounding region. Gate capacity was increased, ticketing and baggage facilities expanded, and all areas significantly renovated in an environmentally sensitive and cost effective manner. Alliiance’s planning and design process enabled the airport authority to meet their capacity needs in an efficient, incremental and financially sound manner – while providing an enduring civic anchor for Wisconsin’s capitol city.
Initiated with a comprehensive Terminal Area Master plan, this process included forecasting, existing facility and systems analysis, programming, expansion alternatives and passenger flow analysis. Critical parameters of the design team were to accommodate demand requirements, foster synergies through aviation planning and design strategies, and align all of this to the unique cultural heritage of the region.
The project sets new standards for functional and sustainable design within an airport context and has won multiple national and international awards for its Sustainable Design Elements and Sense of Place design.
